An ancient stone circle discovered in 2003 by the pilot of a downed plane in Kaapsehoop is thought to be an ancient observatory and tool to track the movement of the stars – and the oldest human-made structure on earth, far older than Stone Henge and tens of thousands of years older than the pyramids. Originally thought to be 75 000 years old, they are now thought to be over 200 000 years old. Creepy? Some who have been there say so. They say they can feel something there. What is incredible is that the stone circle now dubbed Adam’s Calendar is one of many that have been spotted since from the air throughout Southern Africa and which all seem to be linked by ancient roadways – hinting (and some would say far more than hinting) at an impossibly ancient civilization. Even more amazing is that all of this has only revealed since the advent of Google Earth’s satellite imagery! Previously, overgrown stone structures were thought to be old cattle kraals.
Some archeologists and historians even postulate a link between these ruins and the Giant Footprint in nearby Lothair – suggesting that they are evidence that a race of Giants may once have inhabited Southern Africa, dying out around 11 000 years ago – long before the generally accepted rise of civilization in 6000BC in Sumeria – and if one takes heed of the legends of the local tribes – they could be right.
A variation on this is the link postulated between the ruins and the discovery of fossilized pieces of skull from a ‘variation’ of homo sapiens, or perhaps another species with very large heads and childlike faces – named Boskop man and discovered very near Adam’s Calendar in Boskop.
All very weird, wonderful and maybe a bit creepy…but definitely fascinating, no matter how open you are to the possibility that life as we know it came about via a very different route to ones proposed by Darwin or the Creationists.
