Short of the ideal painting or etching to hang on your walls? Have a look around the house.
Collectables, plates, silver salvers and even fabric can be turned into a work of art.
1.Pie Eyed
Interior designer André Kleynhans turned vintage pie tins, bought at a flea market, into a striking display by attaching them to white board and writing the names of lesser-known towns underneath. Using eight and grouping them closely together gives them impact.
2. Material World
Don’t discard those leftover pieces of fabric. If the design is striking enough, like Sandberg’s Esmeralda from The Silk and Cotton Company, wrap it around a piece of board or polystyrene, pin securely at the back and either hang on the wall or prop casually on a shelf. An instant masterpiece.
3. Time to Shine
Clocks and clock shapes are very fashionable at the moment and look great in contemporary homes. Look out for oversized versions such as this 600mm diameter quartz clock from @home which not only gives you the time but the temperature and barometric pressure too.
4. Plate Class
Displays of plates are back, but for a more contemporary look stick to one type. Nothing could be simpler than this row of small yellow plates, which looks effective hung low in a straight line over a lovely daybed piled with velvet cushions – perfect for an entrance hall.
