Take a very interesting walk around Babylonstoren, 8ha of beautiful formal garden, inspired by the Company Gardens of the Cape, where for centuries, ships would replenish with sweet water, vegetables and fruit. Situated on a Cape Dutch farm dating back to 1690, the gardens are surrounded by the dramatic mountains of the Drakenstein Valley. The name originates from the mythical garden of Babylon.
See how over 300 varieties of edible plants are grown biologically. Walks span over three kilometres in the garden. During spring, 7 000 clivias bloom down by the stream, where a secluded path runs in the shade of wild olives and oaks.

The garden is divided into fifteen clusters spanning vegetable areas, berries, bees, indigenous plants, ducks and chickens and includes a prickly pear maze. Gravity feeds water into waterways from stream into the garden as it was done for 300 years.
And when you have seen the gardens, satisfy your appetite with a very fresh, different meal at the restaurant. To book please email or call + 27 (0) 21 863 3852. Website. Open Wednesday to Sunday: 09h00 – 17h00. Off the R45 between the N1 and Franschhoek.
