Here are four fabulous ideas for statement headboards
1. Slip into something comfortable
Slip-covering headboards gives you the chance to change the look of the room seasonally and can be a practical choice if you choose a washable fabric. Simple rectangular headboards are ideal for slip covering. These ones are covered in Canvas Broad Stripe, colour Chocolate, from The Silk and Cotton Company. The collection of numbered prints above the bed has the effect of extending the headboard. Interior design by Bruce Fyfe.
2. It’s a stick up
A quick and cost-effective way of giving your bed a facelift: Gin & Chocolate Design specialise in custom wall graphics (vinyl art) and custom-designed wallpaper. The headboard created here is a vinyl cut-out, R380/m2, custom-made to fit the bed and match the interior colours.
3. Wing your way to dreamland
This headboard has a wing on either side similar to a wingback chair. It gives a feeling of security with a touch of indulgence, especially when upholstered in a luxurious fabric. The neutral fabric, from the Liaison range, colour Platinum, from Hertex Fabrics, can be combined with any colour or pattern to good effect. Interior design by Andre Kleynhans.
4. Screen Queen
When straightened out, folding screens make very effective headboards. They are easy to install: just slide it behind the bed and push the bed against it to keep it in place. This painted screen gives a pretty, feminine look to this bedroom designed by Cocoon Living.
