The 8ha Gonunbie Nature Reserve, 20km north east of East London, in the town of Gonubie is home to over 130 species of bird, mostly water birds.
This reserve was established in 1955 to conserve a wetland habitat and associated bird, plant and animal species.
There is a well-established walking route and a bird hide overlooking an open body of water. This makes it ideal for birdwatchers interested in wetland species.
This reserve also has a small interpretive centre with bird and animal lists and a brief history of the area.
Ablutions are available and visitors are encouraged to utilize benches and open spaces for picnics.
Open Mondays to Fridays from 8.30am to 4pm.
From the N2, take the Oceanway offramp to Gonubie and close to the ocean, turn right onto 7th Street which leads to the reserve.
