Bojanala Platinum, North West

The Bojanala Platinum region of the North West Province supplies over 70% of the world’s platinum, under the management and ownership of the Royal Bafokeng tribe. The Capital of the region is the thriving mining and tourism-based city of Rustenburg which is also the location of the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace.

Bojanala is known for its plains and mountain scenery, outdoor attractions and malaria-free game reserves – the best known of these being the Big 5 Pilanesberg Game Reserve which is situated in an ancient and extinct volcano crater. Situated next to the Pilanesberg Reserve, the Sun City and Palace of the Lost City complex is a world famous and unparalleled casino, entertainment and resort attraction.

The south-eastern section of Bojanala Platinum borders on Gauteng and is made up of the Magaliesberg and Hartbeespoort Dam areas – both popular weekend break destinations for city-dwellers from Gauteng and Pretoria, with many attractions ranging from canyoning, hiking, MTB to 4×4 trails, to cheetah, elephant and other animal sanctuaries, mountain and dam activities.
