Boskop Dam Nature Reserve, Potchefstroom

The 3000ha Boskop Dam Nature Reserve in the Mooi River Valley just north of Potchefstroom offers great angling, birding and other outdoor recreation as well as game viewing. Over 250 bird species have been recorded here, and various species of antelope can be seen including black wildebeest, springbok and red hartebees. Herds of zebra can also seen in the rolling grasslands.

The Boskop Dam is particularly known for its great angling and annual local competitions are held there.

There is a campsite with basic amenities – bring your own canoes and fishing gear for a perfect weekend getaway in the ‘bush’! (Note – it can get very cold at night.)

Getting there: Take the R501 (Carltoneville Rd) north from Potchefstroom (on the N12)
