Buffalo Gorge MTB Trails, Middelburg, Mpumalanga

Buffalo Gorge is the ideal setting for mountain biking as it offers a great variety of terrain.

Buffalo Gorge has been the venue for the 2006 Dark Zone Challenge Adventure Race and offers not only a challenge to the serious mountain biker, but also allows all members of the family to ride on the routes or just to roam all over the farm and surrounding roads with their mountain bikes.

Trail lengths range from 1-18km and the Trailhead is at the Buffalo Gorge Base Camp. You can also enjoy a ride all the way to Loskop Dam, or just explore the roads around the farm. The grading of the routes are from easy to moderate, difficult and extreme.

The MTB Challenge traverses the plateau overlooking the “Avontuur Vallei” with primarily jeep track, some open dirt roads and single tracks.

At Buffalo Gorge we spend a lot of time working on the single track so you will enjoy it.

Buffalo Gorge has the concession to take weekend horse safaris to neighbouring Loskop Dam Nature Reserve, home to three of the Big Five, and there are also abseiling and rock-climbing sites ranging from 15 to 50 m and six hiking trails to explore.

To get to Buffalo Gorge, see the routes from Pretoria on the Map below.
