Bushmans Sands Golf Course was designed by golfing great Gary Player. Situated in Alicedale about an hour from Grahamstown and 1.5 hours from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape on the banks of the Bushmans and New Years Rivers, the course was laid out along the lines of the early links courses in Scotland. The undulating fairways with pot bunkers, a railway line and many river crossings make for an interesting and different round of golf.
Although there are some serious tests, the course is nevertheless very pleasant to play for the average golfer. A unique feature is the 1400 sq.m. double green shared by the 2nd and 5th holes. The 14th hole is particularly dramatic playing across a stream onto a wide green close to the railway line.
The club house facilities are excellent with a dining room, well stocked pro shop, bar overlooking the 18th green, a spa and wellness centre, a beautiful swimming pool and steam rooms in the ladies and gents changing rooms.
Alicedale is ideally situated for golfers wishing to enjoy malaria free game viewing in the many game reserves in the area such as the world famous Shamwari and the Addo Elephant Park.
