Bushveld Activities at Thaba’nkwe for Adventure Lovers


Thaba’Nkwe Bush Lodge offers a truly unique experience for those who love the African bush with the convenience of being only 5 kms from Thabazimbi town.

Besides having camping facilities, group accommodation, rustic chalets and cabins, Thaba’Nkwe also has a restaurant and bar with a wooden deck overlooking the gardens, swimming pool and kiddies play area.

The property also offer guests and the public a scenic hiking and mountain biking route with plenty view points where the beautiful mountain range can be enjoyed.

The bush themed restaurant offers a full A la Carte menu and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner , except on Sundays.  Thaba’Nkwe Bushveld Inn Restaurant boasts with the best grills in town and guests can dine inside the restaurant or on the wooden deck and enjoy the beautiful bushveld sunset with an ice cold beverage.

Mountain Biking and Hiking Trails

Thaba'Nkwe - Mountain Biking and Hiking TrailsIdeal for outdoor enthusiasts to walk and observe animals in their natural surroundings. Approximately 15 km of easy trails with the option of climbing up steep “koppies” to enjoy spectacular views over the reserve.

Mountain biking enthusiasts can enjoy the challenge of moderate to extreme routes and maps are provided at the Lodge.

Thaba’Nkwe offers 385 hectares of rugged, rocky terrain for both extreme and amateur mountain biking enthusiasts and hikers. The reserve has a wide variety of wildlife and bird species.

Located only 5kms from Thabazimbi on the R510, Lephalale Road.

For long distant rides, cyclists can exit the main Lodge gate from the reserve and enjoy a stretch of tar road for distances up to 50km.

Thaba’Nkwe Bushveld Inn has a wide variety of antelope, wildebeest, zebra and bird species for all nature lovers and there are plenty of shaded areas for stop offs.

Bird Watching

Keep an eye out African Hawk Eagle, Swee Waxbill on the high grounds and in the low bushveld and woodlands you are likely to see the Purple Roller, Brubru, White Helmetshrike, Black Cuckoo Shrike, White Crowned Shrike, Black Cheeked Waxbills and Blue Waxbills.

Also not to be missed are the various Bee-eaters. More rarely seen is the Violet Ear Sunbird, Green Winged Dove and Grey Bushveld Parakeet. Maps are provided at the Lodge.
