Calitzdorp Wine Cellar, Klein Karoo, Western Cape

Calitzdorp Cellar, Klein Karoo, Western CapeCalitzdorp Wine Cellar was established in 1928 in the Klein Karoo town of Calitzdorp in the Western Cape on the renowned Route 62, the longest wine route in the world. This quaint town situated in a beautiful valley with a climate very similar to that found in Douro in Portugal, is the port capital of South Africa.

The Calitzdorp cellar is one of the leading producers of the award winning fortified wines, particularly port, having won many local and international awards including gold medals at the Michelangelo International Awards. In addition to the fortified wines, the winery produces award winning Shiraz, Merlot, Pinotage, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The cellar has been twice awarded the Champion Cooperative Cellar of the Little Karoo and performs very well at the SA Young Wine shows. The Hanepoot was the SA champion in 2008 and there were a few class winners such as Blanc de Noir and Jerepigo. The cellar processes 4000 tons of grapes per year.
