Constantia Uitsig Wine Estate was originally a part of the Groot Constantia Estate owned by the renowned Governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel. The Lategan family arrived in the country in 1735 and acquired the land sometime after van der Stel gained official title in 1785. It was owned by the Lategans for five generations and then acquired by the present owners, David and Marlene McCay in 1988.
Apart from producing fine wines the estate is known for its world class restaurants, a five star hotel and the famous Cricket Oval. Constantia Uitsig’s tranquil surroundings, charming service and heartfelt hospitality are enhanced by its splendid location on a working wine estate. The hotel has sixteen garden rooms furnished with elegant simplicity and sweeping views of the gardens – a perfect resting place for the most discerning traveller. The recently opened Spa has been featured in Tatlers’s Guide to the Top Spas in the World 2007.
The Wine Shop is situated close to the entrance and casual wine tasting takes place 7 days a week from 9h00 to 17h00 and on public holidays, Saturday and Sunday from 10h00 to 17h00.
