Crocworld’s Newest Resident: Rehabilitated Three-Legged Leopard Tortoise
Since arriving at Crocworld Conservation Centre, our resilient three-legged leopard tortoise has quickly bonded with a fellow ‘tripod’ tortoise also undergoing rehabilitation. To truly welcome our latest resident into the fold, we’re inviting the public to suggest a name for our tortoise – and you could win tickets for a family of four to the center!
Discovered by a golfer at Umkomaas Golf Course, the leopard tortoise faced adversity with one immobile leg and another injured. Crocworld Conservation Centre Manager, James Wittstock, estimates the tortoise’s age to be between 15 to 20 years. After receiving treatment, including an amputation and care for another leg at uShaka Sea World, he has thrived at Crocworld, forming friendships with fellow Leopard tortoises, including one with three legs like himself!
