Explore the beautiful area of Franschhoek by bike and get real close to the unique countryside of fynbos and wine farms. If you have your own bike, try the 7 kilometre off-road tarred path running from De Villiers Street (opposite Franschhoek Cellars as you drive into the village) to the Wemmershoek/Berg River Dam crossroads, though bikers need to give priority to pedestrians (a bicycle bell gives a useful warning). The village side streets are also fairly quiet.
If you do not have a bike, don’t worry. Rent a mountain bike from local supplier, Manic Bicycles, who also offer tailor-made tours that includes stunning scenery, little used roads, picnics and wine tasting at various farms. They also cater for families with young children. For those with babies up to 2 years old, there are baby carriers for rent. From 3 years upwards, we have kiddies bikes to rent, varying in wheel size between 14″ – 24″. Tel: 021 876 4956: E-Mail: Website. Find them in the Franschhoek Centre, on the right as you drive into the village.
