Dante Bazzea’s Inspiring Journey at Houtbay

We are excited to introduce Dante Bazzea’s inspiring journey Dante, a local skateboarder and the founder of Peaches Skateboarding has been leaving a significant impact on the Hout Bay community. He has chosen Bay Harbour Market as his showcase venue, and we were curious to discover the reasons behind this choice.

Tell us about the process of creating your skateboards:

To ensure durability, our skate decks are crafted from high-quality maple wood, a material not currently available in South Africa. Therefore, we import the raw decks. However, the magic happens here at home through a collaborative effort with local talents such as tattoo artists, designers, and screen printers from Cape Town, in addition to my own contributions. Many of our graphics draw inspiration from my cat, Peaches, who serves as our brand’s beloved mascot.

How does your project contribute to the community?

I’m proud to run a deck exchange initiative. Bring us an old but still skateable deck, and you’ll receive a 10% discount on a brand new Peaches deck. The old decks are then donated to Ziyaad’s Skate School at Eyethu Hout Bay Skate Park, ensuring that children who may not have the means to own their skateboards can still learn and enjoy the sport.

How can young enthusiasts get involved?

Spread the word about Peaches Skateboarding at the market, and encourage your friends to do the same. Bring along your old boards, and come hang out with us. Let’s keep the skating spirit alive, support one another, and share the love!

What motivated you to choose Bay Harbour Market for your pop-up shop?

Bay Harbour Market holds a special place in our hearts for several reasons. Its close proximity to Eyethu Hout Bay Skate Park makes it the ideal location for our project, connecting us with a growing community of skateboarders.

Dante’s dedication to his passion and his commitment to giving back to the community are truly heartwarming. He exemplifies the positive impact individuals can have on the world. You can catch Dante at the Bay Harbour Market in Hout Bay every weekend throughout August. Don’t forget to bring your old skateboards and exchange them for one of his incredible custom designs. Join us in supporting this remarkable initiative!
