Decorex Joburg wins ‘2016 Exhibition of the Year’ At AAXO Roar Awards’ Ceremony.
Decorex SA, and a number of its exhibitors, walked away with top awards at the revered ROAR Organiser and Exhibitor Awards – hosted by the Association of African Exhibition Organisers (AAXO) – including the most coveted ‘2016 Exhibition of the Year’ award.
This was a record event for the exhibition industry with some 330 guests comprising exhibitors, organisers, suppliers, industry champions and the media, all participating in the traditional-themed ceremony held at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg on Thursday, 26 January. And, for the first time exhibitors were included in the industry awards alongside exhibition organisers.
Chairperson of AAXO, Carol Weaving, explained: “Including exhibitors in these awards was a focus for AAXO. Previously, exhibitors were not even invited to industry awards, despite the fact that there would really be no stands or even exhibitions without them. AAXO’s focus has always been to champion the cause of our members, but also of the industry as a whole. The ROAR Organiser and Exhibitor Awards give us one opportunity to do so.”
Another record for the event was the incredible 40 entries submitted in the five categories, namely, Trade Exhibition, Trade and Consumer Exhibition, Consumer Exhibition, Confex and Table Top Exhibition with a total of 16 individual awards given. To ensure only the best were selected for each category, judging was undertaken by a highly-experienced group of leading professionals from the exhibitions, communications and marketing industries.
Cementing its status as the best in the business, Decorex Joburg was given the highest award in the exhibitions’ industry, ‘2016 Exhibition of the Year’. This was an incredible achievement for organisers, Reed Exhibitions, who have maintained a level of industry professionalism while continuing to meet market and consumer demands year on year.

Reed Exhibitions and the Decorex SA portfolio had much more to celebrate that evening with Decorex Durban awarded ‘Best Trade and Consumer Exhibition 6000 – 12000 square meters’ while 100% Design South Africa took the ‘Best Trade and Consumer Exhibition under 6000 square meters’ category. Launched in 2014, 100% Design South Africa – a high-end curated showcase of designs and designers – takes place alongside Decorex Joburg annually.
In addition, several partners and sponsors of Decorex SA were also rewarded for their impressive showcases during 2016. In the Trade and Consumer Exhibition category, Distinctions in Exhibiting went to Belgotex Floors designed by Marot and Sanders and built by Compex at Decorex Joburg; Caeserstone built by Progroup at Decorex SA; Franke built by Penny Patrick at Decorex Joburg and Dokter and Misses built by Dokter and Misses at 100% Design.
