Dolphin Coast is a part of the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal so named for the bottlenose dolphins that make their way up and down the coast in large schools. One of the most beautiful sights in nature is to see these magnificent creatures frolicking and surfing in the waves.
The Dolphin Coast begins at Tongaat Beach and stretches for about 25km to Tinley Beach including Ballito, Salt Rock, Zimbali, Blythedale, Zinkwazi and Thukela Mouth.
Endless golden beaches, interrupted here and there by rugged rocky outcrops such as at Shaka’s Rock, tidal pools, the warm Indian Ocean, perfect surfing conditions, the forests and rolling sugar cane fields and beautiful golf courses, make this amazing coastline a dream holiday destination.
The towns vary from bustling like Ballito to tranquil like Sheffield Beach and secluded like Tinley Manor Beach. The variety of activities boggles the mind – some of the best fishing on the coastline, surfing, golfing on some of the best courses in the country, hiking and experiencing nature at its best, bird watching, Zulu heritage and of course simply lazing and swimming on the protected beaches. For a little excitement, how about the Sibaya Casino – and for some serious shopping visit one of the biggest malls in SA, the Gateway Theatre of Shopping in nearby Umhlanga.
