Several short hikes and walking trails are offered by the ‘Friends of the Escarpment’ organisation based in Hazyview, Mpumalanga.
The 2hr Langspruit Trail is an easy walk from the Nkwathle Bush Camp to Langspruit in an unspoiled environment with a great diversity of lush plant and bird life. Accommodation is available at the Bush Camp or at nearby Hazy Park Lodge.
The Matumi Trail is a short hike of 4 – 5 hours in duration along the Mac Mac River, through mostly beautiful, cool riverine forest. The trail is named for the indigenous Matumi trees found there. Accommodation is available at the Matumi Log Cabin.
Several other trails of similar duration are available through various areas with related but slightly differing biomes – form indigenous forest to lowveld bush, from the forested Sandford Conservancy, through private plantations, through the ‘Land of the Cowned Eagle’ to the ‘Laughing Waters’ forest…
