Ferndale 4×4 Trail, Cathcart, Eastern Cape

Eastern Cape Ferndale TrailFerndale offers four trails (Scenic, Redcone, Wild Route and Diff-lock Alley) that weave through the lush Henderson Heights mountain range near Cathcart.

Although the trails are signposted, you’re given a GPS because they’re all connected, leaving you the choice of which one to attempt and which obstacles you’d prefer to avoid.

It’s a rocky ride, but whether you’re going for a scenic drive or are a hardcore adrenaline junkie (don’t miss the action on Adrenaline Hill or the Play Pit), Ferndale has it all.

How to get there: Entering Cathcart from Queenstown on the N6, turn left at the 4-way stop street into Main Rd (right if coming from East London). At the Ferndale sign board (1st stop street / First National Bank), turn left. Travel 2km out of town. Turn right at the Henderson/Bacela sign. Travel for 23km down into Henderson valley. Turn right at the Ferndale Campsite and 4×4 sign (at the hangar & windsock) and follow the road for 1km to the campsite on Thomas River at the base of the krans (cliff).
