The spots that are most frequented by anglers here are the Willard Beach area, where fishermen can fish for shad and kob in the surf, and Pool Rocks, where catches of garrick, kingfish, shad, grunter, stumpnose and pompano can be made.
Compensation Beach and Boulder Bay are rocky fishing spots with sandy patches of beach. Compensation Beach is known locally as Salmon Bay, because good catches of kob (called salmon in KwaZulu-Natal) are made here.
Tips for fishermen:
Interestingly, the best catches here are made at night, when the water is slightly discoloured. Also, don’t fish in the areas designated for bathing.
Getting there: Ballito is 30 mins drive north of Durban on the N2.
