The Haga-Haga Reef, which is a long rock shelf to the west of the lagoon at the river mouth, allows the angler to get close to the water’s edge and to fish into deep water. This spot is well known for it’s catches of kob and garrick, along with an array of pan fish and the occasional shark.
There are two very good spots to the west of Haga-Haga along the rocky coastline. The first one is one of the best-known spots along this section of coastline, called Pullen’s Bay. Here, fishermen can fish for big-game fish into deep water off the rocks, and the spot is famed for their catches of musselcracker.
Just further along the rocks, there is a spot called Rooiwalle. Here, it is also possible to fish into deep water, but the spot is better known for its catches of bronze bream and other small, gully fish such as blacktail, galjoen, and zebra fish.
Here, you can fish for small bait fish, and use them as live bait to catch Garrick, which hunt for smaller fish with deadly precision.
Getting there: from East London, take the R102 going north along the coast. Then, turn off at the R349. Follow this road and keep right at the split, then continue down to Haga-Haga.
