As a fishing spot, the area around the mouth of the Kei River can be very productive at times, with kob, garrick, spotted grunter and white steenbras all caught here. These fish can be caught on a variety of baits, including sardine, squid, shad, karanteen and live bait. If you are an angler after the large white steenbras that frequent the river mouth, ghost crabs and prawns will be your best bet for bait.
At Cape Morgan Nature Reserve, between Kei Mouth and Morgan’s Bay, the Lighthouse, High Rocks and Pumphouse Rocks are known for their catches of kob, shad, garrick and sharks.
Getting there: from East London, take the R102 going north along the coast, then take the R349 going into Kei Mouth.
