The Franklin Game Reserve in Bloemfontein is the only game reserve in the world to be located within city perimeters. The Reserve encompasses 250 ha on top of ‘Naval Hill’ – a flat topped hill in the middle of the city. Entrance is free, and the reserve is open from 8am – 5pm.
There are no predators within the Reserve, so it is a perfect place to go jogging or picnicking and to appreciate Free State flora and fauna, including giraffe, buck, zebra, eland and many species of birds and plants.
Naval Hill is great place to have sundowners – you can see the whole city while you toast the sunset.
Getting there: The Franklin Game Reserve is situated in the middle of the city of Bloemfontein on Naval Hill.
