The Gabriëlskloof Wine Estate is a quality vineyard that is dedicated to perfection, in their wine making, the restaurant, and in the olive and lavender oils produced on the estate. Tucked away among rolling hills, just an hour from Cape Town along the N2 between Botrivier and Calendon, this is just the right place to break your trip and enjoy breakfast or lunch, taste the wine, or let the kids play on the lawns.
Wine
The philosophy of quality underpins the daily practices at Gabriëlskloof (starting with the virus free vineyards). The variety of slopes and the diverse soils provide endless opportunities to express the unique terroir in the wines. After carefully matching cultivars and terroir, the first vines were planted in 2002 and in 2008 winemaker Kobie Viljoen joined the team to make the debut vintage.
The Wines: Premium range: Sauvignon Blanc, Rosebud, The Blend, Shiraz. Reserve range: Viognier, Magdalena, Five Arches, Syrah.
The modern cellar with beautifully hewn stone walls and finishes can be seen from the N2, and the restaurant, courtyard and tasting room all offer 360 degree views over the hills towards mountains and sea. Tastings: Mon – Fri 09:00 – 17:00 Sat – Sun 10:00 – 14:00
Olives and Lavender
Originally intended to be decorative, the olives and lavender have thrived in the valley and we now make oil from both. The olive groves are right at home in the cool Mediterranean climate that is so kind to our grapes. A mix of Coratina, Frantoio and Leccino olive trees grow on the sunny Gabriëlskloof slopes. The fruit is small with intense flavour, handpicked and then cold-pressed to produce boutique quality extra virgin olive oil. You can taste and buy the oil during your wine tasting, and don’t forget to pick up some of our other olive products from the restaurant’s deli.
Restaurant
Stop by for a hearty breakfast before a morning of wine tasting; or while away a leisurely afternoon on our stoep and enjoy the fare of owners, Frans Groenewald and Juan van der Westhuizen.
Expect good, no-fuss homemade food made from the freshest ingredients. Of course, our local food goes hand-in-hand with the region’s wine. Gabriëlskloof wine is available by the glass and at cellar door prices. We also stock a selection of our favourite Bot River wines and are always happy to suggest the perfect wine to go with your meal. Open seven days a week from 09h00 – 17h00
Across from the restaurant is a small chapel, making it the perfect intimate wedding venue. Drop us a line with your requirements or arrange a visit.
