On leaving Cape Town on the N2, ascend Sir Lowry’s Pass with panoramic views overlooking the Cape Flats. Stop at quaint roadside stalls around Grabouw, as you enter the Overberg farmlands. Here you will experience the beauty of rolling wheat and canola fields with majestic mountain ranges in the background. Explore the historic towns of Swellendam and Caledon.
Take a detour on the R406 to one of South Africa’s oldest mission villages, Genadendal or stay over in Greyton – the idyllic weekend getaway.
Hit the beautiful coast at Mossel Bay, where you can experience Shark Cage Diving and the Mossel Bay Museum Complex among the many attractions.
George is next along the N2, home to Fancourt, one of the best known golfing establishments in South Africa.
The Wilderness National Park, between George and Knysna is a RAMSAR birding area and a great spot for canoeing.
Knysna, town of the year in South Africa on numerous occasions is not only the gateway to the Tsitsikamma National Forest, but also has the beautiful Knysna Lagoon and Knysna Heads as top attractions. Knysna is a golfing mecca, with numerous championship courses from which to choose.
The magnificent scenery, forests and pristine beaches are just part of what Plettenberg Bay has to offer. Plett is set around an amazing lagoon, surrounded by Blue Flag beaches – just the place to relax and enjoy the sun. The Robberg Hike is one of the best in South Africa, with stunning sea views, and the Harkerville Forest offers some of the best mountain bike trails in the country.
Travelling towards Port Elizabeth, not far from Plett, at Blauwkrans, is the highest bungee jump in the world and close by, the Tsitsikamma National Park – a must for lunch or tea and the dramatic bridge walk.
Jeffreys Bay, further along the coast is the surfing mecca of South Africa, and is rated as one of the most exciting surfing spots in the world.
