Golf sense – Practical tips on how to play golf in the zone

There are thousands of instructional golf books out on the market today.

‘Improve your swing’, ‘Break 80′ and ‘Putting like a champion’ are just three topics that are covered extensively, and with the majority of golf books focusing on improving your physical skills, few books actually tackle the idea that your golfing woes may be down to mental rather than physical ability.

Along came Roy Palmer who left his job in the computing world and being an avid sportsman, decided to turn his passion into a career. He has created numerous techniques which help sportsmen and women improve their efficiency of movement to reduce injuries and enhance performance.

He has written three books based on his experience of working with hundreds of sports people and has become fascinated by what athletes call ‘The Zone’ – the sublime state where a peak performance actually feels easy.

What is the book about

The blurb of the book is pretty straightforward –

You’ve just played two great shots to get onto the green…. and then fluffed the easiest of putts! How did that happen?

Surprisingly it has little to do with your ability. It comes down to something you may never have considered; it’s habit. Habits can make you do things you really didn’t want to do, yet most golfers remain unaware of their influence. The innovative techniques in Golf Sense will help you get into The Zone to breakthrough the performance limiting habits holding you back and let you take greater control over your game.

The claims

Interestingly, the book claims you will be taught to:

  • eradicate those annoying mistakes more easily than you could ever have imagined.
  • increase your distance using less effort
  • improve accuracy by not trying
  • simplify your golf

That sounds right up my alley, and I’m currently reading through the book slowly and carefully. In all honesty I’m a little sceptical when it comes to books like this and I’d like a second opinion. I have a second copy of the book up for grabs and I’ll give it away on condition that the winner reads it, and sends me a report on whether the book helped or not.
