Groote Post Winery has it all. Excellent wines, historical architecture, a restaurant with scrumptious meals to balance the Groote Post wines and a scenic setting in the green valley of the Klawer River.
Groote Post is an historic 18th century farm on the Cape’s West Coast where winemaking traditions have been revived by the Pentz family. Unique aspects and cool climatic conditions of the Darling Hills yield superlative fruit. The award winning wines are produced to reflect the uniqueness of the vineyards.
The winery is watched over by the beautifully restored Cape Dutch Klawer Valley homestead and the imposing slave bell (depicted on the Groote Post wine labels).
Wine tasting opening hours: Monday – Friday: 09h00 – 17h00: Saturday – Sunday: 10h00 – 16h00: Public Holidays: 10h00 – 16h00: Closed: Easter Friday, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Please note there is a small charge per person for tastings for groups of 10 or more people.
Groote Post Restaurant offers modern country cooking using only the freshest of produce, much locally sourced and grown and the menu is designed to complement the outstanding range of Groote Post wines. The restaurant can seat up to 120 people. Why not enjoy a lunch before or after a show at Evita’s Peron in Darling on Saturdays or Sundays?
Groote Post is also an ideal wedding venue. The Manor House, dating back to 1790 is set in a wonderful garden with rolling green lawns. Pastures and the ancient buildings (all National Monuments) make for the perfect country setting. Resplendent with antiques and glass collections, the Manor House is where the restaurant is situated.
Services can be held under the Ceremonial Bell but there are other spots in the garden which could be used. Also please bear in mind that there are churches in Darling itself and if this option is used we can arrange for the couple to be transported in a blue Rolls Royce to the venue at a very reasonable cost. Numerous photo opportunities exist on the farm.
Located just outside Darling, the venue is an hour’s easy drive from Cape Town along the West Coast Road. Once on that road there are only 2 turns to make so it’s impossible to get lost!!
