The Mont Plaisir Guest Farm offers Horse Trails as well as various other outdoors activities in the beautiful Eastern Free State near the border with Lesotho.
Mont Plaisir is a beautiful working horse farm a few km from Fouriesburg. The farm’s name means ‘Mountain of Pleasure’ and was so named by the previous owners after a South American coffee plantation they once lived on, but the name is apt as the guest farm where there is something to keep everyone happy.
The farm is lush and peaceful, with beautiful views of the Rooiberg (Red Mountains), the Witteberg (White Mountains) and the Maluti mountains that mark the Lesotho border.
Activities on Mont Plaisir include horse riding, horse riding lessons for beginners and children and horse trails, including overnight trails. Other activities include hikes and walks and mtb trails.
Nearby attractions for day trips include the Golden Gate National Park, the lovely town of Clarens, with its art galleries, eclectic shops and microbrewery, and the town of Ficksburg, the Cherry Capital of the World. Mont Plaisir’s owners offer 4×4 tours in the area, and day and overnight tours to Lesotho.
In winter, day tours to Afriski in Lesotho offer the opportunity to go skiing or snowboarding, returning to Mont Plaisir in the evening.
Getting there: Take the R26 north out of Fouriesburg , turning left on to the Robertson St. Take a right on to Reitz St. after 7.5 km.
