Inverdoorn Game Reserve and Safari Lodge is a private game reserve just 2 ½ hours from Cape Town. With great feedback on Tripadvisor, this five star safari lodge offers the visitor excellent big five game viewing, birding, and close up interaction with cheetahs at the cheetah rehabilitation unit. And when you return from your three hour game drive, discovering SA’s wildlife, a perfect fusion of South African and French cuisine will satisfy the most discerning traveller, as does the all-round good service and friendliness of the staff.

Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve, Ceres wildlifeThere is a spectacular variety of vegetation in these parts, with a splendid array of colours on display in the spring months after the winter rains. The scenery is a beautiful backdrop to all the wildlife. Game drives offer opportunities to see lion, rhino, elephant, buffalo and the elusive leopard. In addition to the Big 5, animals you may see include giraffe, zebra, hippos, meerkat, and antelope such as kudu, eland and gemsbok. Game drives are offered to guests as well as day visitors – and private game drives are an option.

Bird species include the African Fish Eagle, Black Crow, Blue Crane, Black-breasted Snake Eagle, Giant Kingfisher, Cape Vulture, Cape Eagle Owl, Flamingo, Ostrich, Secretary Bird, Sacred Ibis, Egyptian Goose, Spotted Eagle Owl, Black Stork, Barn Owl, Jackal Buzzard.

The reptile list includes Cape Cobra, Coral Snake, Cape Thick Toed Gecko, Boomslang, Giant Ground Gecko, Molesnake, Sand Lizzard, Rhombic Egg Eater and Puffadder.

The reserve is 10 000ha in size. With vast open plains the 1 200 or so animals that live within its boundaries are generally easy to find. There are numerous viewing points close to watering holes, where explorers can relax and watch the wild animals enjoy a drink, while they do the same.

Guests can step close to wild animals such as giraffes on our guided walks with expert trackers during safaris, and overnight guests can watch the animals drink, eat and play at our many observation posts situated strategically inside the reserve high up out of danger’s way!

Of all the Cape private reserves this close to the Mother City, only Inverdoorn offers such a wide variety of free roaming species living in large family herds.

Inverdoorn also has a volunteer program. Those who would like to spend a few months working with cheetahs can submit an application through the establishment’s website.

At Inverdoorn, we understand that visiting an African Safari is a once off opportunity, so our safaris are specifically set up for visitors to get maximum first-hand African wild animal interaction.

Take the N1 to Worcester through the tunnel and turn off on the R43 (Ceres) just before Worcester. Go to Ceres, drive straight through Ceres towards Touwsriver (R46). As you leave Ceres check the speedo; 43 km tar road after Ceres, then you will get dirt road with Calvinia & Sutherland on the sign board (R355/356). Continue on this dirt road for 5.7 km.
