Joubert-Tradauw Private Cellar is situated near the town of Barrydale on the famous Route 62 in the Klein Karoo. Established 61 years ago by Schalk-Willem Joubert, the farm grows fruit and premium grape cultivars – Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
In the 1990’s fermentation and maturation cellars were built and the first grapes were harvested and crushed. The R62 Merlot/Cabernet blend was released to the market after a 14 month aging period in Burgundy oak barrels.
Joubert-Tradauw wines are more old-world style than new, and are complex, thinly layered and finely structured with layer-upon-layer aromas. The winemaker, Meyer Joubert, uses traditional methods and believes in little intervention in the cellar, with a strong emphasis on good viticulture practices.
All wines are made in a classical style. The wines have won numerous awards. In his book, Monuments of SA Wine, the Belgian, Guido Franque, listed the Joubert Tradauw Chardonnay as one of only 2 Chardonnays worthy of inclusion.
The Joubert-Tradauw winery was also rated as one of the Top-10 wineries in South Africa by Neil Pendock, a taster for John Platter and wine columnist for the Sunday Times.
The R62 Deli on the Estate is not to be missed for its scrumptious platters. The Deli and the tasting room are open at the following times:
Mondays to Fridays: 09H00 till 17H00
Saturdays: 10H00 till 14H00
Sundays: by special appointment only.
