Kamberg Nature Reserve, Drakensberg, KwaZulu-Natal

Kanberg Nature Reserve, Drakensberg, KwaZulu-NatalKamberg Nature Reserve is part of the beautiful Kamberg Valley and lies within the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park, the World Heritage Site in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is centrally situated at the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains from where visitors can have easy access to many well-known areas such as Giant’s Castle and Lotheni Nature Reserve.

The reserve has many well-maintained walking trails with three very attractive picnic sites near the river and trout dams. There is a trout hatchery which is open daily where visitors can learn about how trout are reared. One of the walks is geared for the handicapped. The pleasant walks will take you through grasslands, past streams and trout dams and you can expect to see southern reedbuck, oribi, duiker and eland.

An excellent San Rock Art Interpretive Centre has been established which will help visitors appreciate the art of the people who roamed the area some 4000 years ago. Guided walks to the rock art shelter are conducted daily. The San Bushmen were the original natives in this area but they have been wiped out by the white settlers and the Nguni tribes. The rock paintings in this are the best examples in Africa.
