Kareedouw, enfolded in the Suuranys Mountains, is only 100km from Plettenberg Bay and just around the corner from Jeffreys Bay and Humansdorp; a trip to Kareedouw could also include a visit to Joubertina which is only 44km away. If you are staying at the Tsitsikamma National Park, then 50km will get you to Kareedouw.
The economy of Kareedouw is based on farming and forestry. The famous Rensilfier furniture factory produces fine Black-, Yellow- and Stinkwood furniture.
The town’s popularity has increased mainly due to its placement on Route 62, marketed as the longest wine route in the world but also known as the ‘mountain route’ because of all of the passes along the way.
Together with other small towns like Hankey, Patensie and Joubertina, Kareedouw has mushroomed with the rising tide of visitors. The major attraction of the town is that it lies close to the entrance of the Baviaanskloof, a World Heritage Site.
