Karkloof, Natal Midlands, KwaZulu-Natal

Karkloof is one of the most beautiful areas in the Natal Midlands stretching from Howick to Rietvlei and including Curry’s Post. It is characterized by a range of green hills and misty forests, rugged kloofs and waterfalls. The rare Karkloof Blue Butterfly occurs here exclusively – only five colonies have ever been identified.

The Karkloof Nature Reserve forms a major part of the area. The reserve was created by the Rockwood family in partnership with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife who manage it. The Karkloof Canopy Tour is a major attraction within the reserve.
