ShowMe South Africa

Handowen Mohair Rugs, Prince Albert, South AfricaNamed for the area of South Africa where the goats that supply their fibre are farmed, Karoo Looms supplies handwoven mohair rugs to the interiors industry and the public from their showroom in the tiny hamlet of Prince Albert in the Breede River Valley region of the Western Cape.

A huge variety of weave patterns are produced and you can custom design your own rugs.

Karoo Looms is built on “a passion for quality, design, craftsmanship and personalised service” as well as a team of highly skilled spinners – local women, some of whom have been with the Prince Albert Weavery for almost 30 years since its beginnings in 1983.

Rugs in both mohair and wool are produced for the local and international markets and sold through Karoo Loom’s retail outlet in Prince Albert, which also includes a small gift and clothing shop.

Getting there: Prince Albert is easily accessed from Cape Town. Take the N1.
