ShowMe South Africa

KITESPORTS offer kitesurfing lessons over a three day course at the Sterkfontein Dam near Harrismith, taking up to four students at a time.

Based in Johannesburg, KITESPORTS offers a perfect way for tourists to the Harrismith area of the Eastern Free State to enjoy the best place in South Africa for kitesurfing – and certainly the best place to learn considering the relatively flat surface of the Sterkfontein Dam and the excellent wind conditions.

Watch a Kitesports video that shows just how perfect the wind conditions at Sterfontein Dam are, and also gives you a pretty good glimpse of the Eastern Free State mountain scenery around the dam: Kitesports at ‘Sterkies’ Dam

Getting there: Harrismith lies midway between Johannesburg and Durban on the N3. To get to the Dam, take the N5 west out of Harrismith to the R74 turn off south. Follow the R74 as it goes on to the R712 after about 9 kms. Continue on for 10.5 km, then turn left for 6.2 km, left again for another 11 kms, then left again. Drive a further 2km to the north entrance of the Sterkfontein Dam Nature Reserve.

Please note that KITESPORTS is based in Johannesburg, and courses need to be pre-booked prior to planning your stay at the Dam or in Harrismith. While they assist with arranging accommodations, transport and lodgings are not a part of the package.
