ShowMe South Africa

Kommetjie Beach and Birding SpotKommetjie is a small seaside village located on the Atlantic Seaboard in Cape Town. Blessed with beautiful stretches of white sandy beaches, this is an ideal spot to experience the local birds.

Take the M65 to Kommetjie and turn right down Van Imhoff Road and park in the parking. Take the path that leads onto a rocky area.

Search among the roosting birds for Swift, Sandwich & Common terns, and in winter for Antarctic terns. The Bank, Cape, Crowned & White-breasted cormorant are often together here as well as the Hartlaubs and Kelp gulls, African black oystercatcher and White-fronted plover.

On leaving, follow Lighthouse Road and take a look at the lighthouse – continue on this road and it will eventually take you back to the M65.

Specials: Bank and Crowned Cormorants, Arctic Tern, African Black Oyster Catcher, White-fronted Plover.
