Koster, Bojanala Platinum, North West Province

Koster, North West Province, South Africa

Koster is a very small maize farming settlement south-west of Rustenburg. Koster is situated on a watershed, where the Elands River, Koster River and Mooi River have their sources – the terrain is hilly, and farmlands are interspersed with forested gulleys.

There are several farm guesthouses, game farms and lodges in the Koster area, and the nearby Elands River Gorge offers pretty hiking trails with rock pools, fishing and quad-bike trails. For the latter you need to bring your own Quad Bikes, but entrance to the Boe Boe’s Nest guest farm in the Elands River Gorge, upon which the trails are located, is free.

Getting there: Koster is an hour’s drive from Rustenburg on the R52, through the Magaliesberg mountains. From Johannesburg, take the R509 via Krugersdorp and the small town of Magaliesburg (with a ‘u’).
