Krom River Hiking Trail, Limietberg, Cape Winelands

Krom River Hiking Trail, Limietberg, Cape Winelands

The Krom River day hike is one of the best known walks in the Limietberg Nature Reserve, in the Du Toitskloof Pass between Paarl and Worcester. The trail is 7 km long and takes 3 to 5 hours to complete (there-and-back) – depending how much time is spent along the route. There are many small pools along the way as well as two beautiful water falls.

This easy hiking trail starts in Du Toitskloof, after the Worcester exit of the Huguenot Tunnel. Permit holders can park at a fenced parking area, at the tunnel control truck stop, about 70m from the tunnel.

From the parking area, follow the signboards to where this trail and the Elands RiverTrail split. After crossing the Molenaars River, the trail heads upstream and then ascends along the right-hand slopes of the Krom River. Before reaching the first waterfall, the path passes through a magnificent patch of indigenous forest. Hikers are to be careful climbing past the first waterfall with the aid of a chain ladder, but it is well worth the exercise as the second waterfall is one of the best in the whole of the Western Cape. The trail might be closed during winter and heavy rains. Please check first with Cape Nature.
