The Agri Tourism Route on the KZN South Coast has expanded to include an exciting new stop, Secret Sithela
Rural tourism on the South Coast offers a unique experience beyond traditional sites, with farmlands providing opportunities for outdoor adventures and homegrown tastes.
Phelisa Mangcu, CEO of South Coast Tourism & Investment Enterprise (SCTIE), expressed excitement about the addition of Secret Sithela to the Agri Tourism Route. Situated in Munster, Secret Sithela is a 30-acre eco-estate, with 18 acres designated as the Kathleen Kinsey Nature Reserve. Owned by Rod and Jeanne-Louise Kinsey, the farm features guest units for overnight stays and stunning gardens, including expansive herb, vegetable, and indigenous Secret Sithela gardens developed by Jeanne-Louise since 2016.
Jeanne-Louise hosts natural farming retreats, such as the Earth Harmony Retreat and the annual Farming Organic Food Festival. The estate also offers workshops like the Wild Foraging Workshop and a four-day Natural Farming and Introduction to Permaculture Design Course. Secret Sithela aims to share knowledge about farming in harmony with nature and promote a nature and climate-friendly holiday experience.
“We are excited to join the SCTIE Agri Tourism route, increasing our exposure to tourists and locals interested in a nature-friendly holiday,” said Jeanne-Louise. She hopes to bring more attention to their sister project, Khula Kanyekanye, supporting 18 smallholder family food gardeners.
Secret Sithela’s next four-day Natural Farming workshop is scheduled for 17 to 20 November 2023, with bookings for December stays already underway. The estate plans to introduce shorter, more affordable workshops on sustainable, regenerative farming and lifestyle topics in the coming year.
Secret Sithela adds to the allure of the Agri Tourism Route, complementing the KZN South Coast’s 11 quality golf courses, making it a favored destination for both leisure and MICE activities. The subtropical climate and diverse natural landscape provide the perfect setting for agri-tourism and extreme adventure.
