Limietberg Overnight Hiking Trail, Wellington

Limietberg Hiking TrailThe Limietberg Hiking Trail was originally a one way route through the mountains between Du Toit’s Kloof and Bain’s Kloof Passes, but has now been changed to a circular route starting from the Limietberg Nature Reserve’s Tweede Tol Offices, with secure parking and camping facilities.

From Tweede Tol, the first day is 13km, 8 hours, in a southerly direction, ending at Eerste Tol. The trail climbs up the slopes of Limietkop from where the hiker can see wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and then descends steeply to Eerste Tol. The hut at Eerste Tol no longer exists, but accommodation is available at Bainskloof Corner Lodge.

Day Two is 8km plus depending on the route you choose; You can either hike back along the route you walked the day before; You can walk back along the Bainskloof pass for a cultural historical perspective or you can walk down the Rock-hopper trail (in the river) but this may only be done in summer.

No fires are allowed along the route. It is important to carry water during summer, as sources can be unreliable. It is also advisable to begin early in summer in order to avoid the midday heat, as conditions can be very hot.

Trail limit: Groups limited to 12 people, with a maximum of 24 people allowed on the trail per day.

Limietberg Tweede Tol EntranceFrom Cape Town: Take the Klapmuts/ Wellington turn-off on N1. Turn left and drive for 20km until you get into Wellington. At the third set of traffic lights, turn left into Piet Retief Street and then right at the next set of traffic lights into Church Street. This will lead you into Bainskloof Pass towards Worcester.

Tweede Tol will be on your left, approximately 16km from Bainskloof Pass” signboard, outside Wellington. Drive cautiously as the road through the pass is narrow and potential dangerous.
