The Loskop Dam in the reserve is 27km long and covers an area of 2 350km, making it the largest dam in the Southern Hemisphere.

The dam is a popular destination for fishermen travelling to Mpumalanga and hosts the annual Light Tackle Boat fishing competition. The abundance of water in the reserve makes it a luscious paradise, home to a spectacular array of birdlife and some of Africa’s favourite wild animals. There are over 70 species of mammals in the reserve, including the White Rhino, Buffalo and Leopard. The reserve is one of the few reserves in South Africa where game-viewing can be enjoyed by boat, which is an activity that is very popular in many other game reserves in the other Southern African countries.

The reserve is situated in a Malaria free area and enjoys perfect weather all year round. With the amount of activities on offer, together with the stunning scenery, the reserve makes for the perfect getaway destination whether you are after peace and tranquility or an adventure-filled break.

Getting there: from Gauteng, take the N4 going East into Mpumalanga. At Middelburg, turn onto the N11 going North. Continue along the N11, which goes to the Loskop dam wall. Continue over the dam wall and the entrance to the reserve is shortly after the dam wall on your left-hand side.
