Luckhoff, Free State, South Africa

The tiny Free State town of Lückhoff is about as small and dusty as a Free State town can get, situated in a sheep and cattle farming area in the dry Xhariep Region of the Free State. Named after a famous  19th Dutch Reform Church priest, Rev. HJ Luckhoff, the beautiful stone church is probably Luckhoff’s most striking attraction.

There are also a few historical buildings and monuments including a gunpowder house that dates back to the Boer War, and a 100 year old primary school with Oxwagon tracks in front of it.

Nearby attractions include the Rolfontein Nature Reserve which is home to some unique Karoo flora, and the Vanderkloof Dam.

Getting there: Luckhoff is situated on the R48, 50km south of Koffiefontein.
