The Lydenburg Falls is one of Mpumalanga’s most spectacular waterfalls, and surely also one of South Africa’s highest waterfalls. The Lydenburg Falls is a well-known tourist attraction in the area, and a small entrance fee is charged to access the falls, but it is well worth it.
The Falls consist of 3 individual waterfalls on the Dorps River just shy of Lydenburg travelling east. Two waterfalls drop next each other into a basin with adjacent pools, and the third then drops from there. The two top falls are powerful enough for a small hydro power station to generate electricity for the area. The total drop height is 244m.
Getting there: The Falls are 5km south-west of Lydenburg on the R36.
