Magaliesberg Canopy Tour, Gauteng

The Magaliesberg Mountains have a beautiful spot, high above the canopy, just ideal for zipping from one dizzy height to another – and that is what the Magaliesberg Canopy Tour does. Eleven platforms have been constructed high against the rock faces of the spectacular Ysterhout Kloof (a nature wonderland carved out of the mountainside over millions of years), joined together by 10 cabled slides up to 140 metres long and in places 30 metres above the canopy floor.

Stop at each platform to enjoy the views while your trained tour guides keep you safe and entertained with interesting facts about the history of the more than 2,400 million years old range, and its protected fauna and flora.

Situated at the Sparkling Waters Hotel & Spa, the venue should not take more than 1½ hours from Johannesburg and 1 hour from Pretoria, but give yourself an extra 30 minutes due to unforeseen traffic.

Booking is essential, with a minimum of two and a maximum of eight people per tour. Comfortable clothing with closed shoes should be worn. Helmets are supplied by the tour operators.

Directions: From the N1, take the R511/William Nicol Drive, headed north. After crossing the N14, turn left to stay on the R511. Cross the N4 and continue on the R104/R27. Turn left at the second three-way stop (towards Buffelspoort Dam). The Sparkling Waters Hotel and Spa is on the left about 11km from the turn-off.
