The charming 19th century village of McGregor has a laid back lifestyle, far from the madding crowds. The relaxed way of life and beautiful surroundings have attracted and inspired a community of artists, and their galleries are definitely worth a visit.
Mulberry Studio
A must when visiting McGregor is to view the works of McGregor’s talented artists at Mulberry Studio. McGregor’s many gifted artists work in a variety of media: oils, watercolour, pastel, acrylic, pencil and charcoal to name but a few. Some works of local artists hang in homes and galleries throughout the world.
Mulberry Studio is on the corner of Tindall and Voortrekker Streets. There is an Internet Cafe tucked discreetly inside.
Millstone Pottery
Millstone Pottery, run by Paul de Jongh and Nina Shand, produces a wide range of carefully hand-crafted pots using a broad spectrum of clays and firing techniques, including functional tableware, terracotta garden pots and birdfeeders, washbasins, tiles, platters and bowls, as well as large and small decorative raku dishes, cylinders and vases.
At their studio and showroom, they are happy to demonstrate their craft and the working pottery is open to view 7 days a week. Millstone offers wood-firing workshops to people wanting to experience this ancient and time-honoured process. They also undertake commissions.
