Peace and quiet are the words that come to mind for Moorreesburg in the Swartland. The large grain silos are testament to the wheat farming community and the rolling wheat and canola fields are typical of the Swartland countryside. Agriculture here also embraces livestock such as sheep, cattle, pigs and horses, as well as a great variety of crops including grapes, citrus and potato.

Wheat Museum, MooreesburgRelive the history and production of wheat at the Wheat Museum which is one of only three in the world. Housed in the Old Dutch Reformed Mission Church building, it depicts the history of wheat from early Egyptian times to the modern day.

Visit the 11-circuit labyrinth in Mooreesburg Park to relax body, mind and soul or take in some excellent South African Art at the Dirkie Uys Art Gallery at the school, which houses works by Jacob Hendrik Pierneef, Maggie Laubser, who was born in the district, and Gregoire Boonzaier.

Mooreesburg Golf CourseThis interesting 9-hole golf course invites visitors to play at most affordable tariffs. The 45km Swartland Mountain Bike Trail is 18km north of Mooreesburg, near Koringberg.

The Misverstand Dam just off the N7, near Koringberg, is very popular for water sports with locals and visitors alike. Fishing can be done on the dam and in the Berg River, that feeds the dam.

The Agricultural Show, which takes place in early September, over four days, is an annual festival for the whole family. At the beginning of March, the MKB Swartland Half Marathon and 10km run take place in Moorreesburg.
