The Cederberg must be one of the most awesome natural areas, with little or no traffic, to take your trusted steed on an enjoyable, scenic outing. Some of the roads are a bit rough, so be prepared for a puncture. We have given you some insight into the road conditions below. These are all circular routes, and for convenience sake, we have started them all from Matjiesrivier. Gerrit at the Oasis Backpackers and Camping Grounds put this info together, and his pad is near Matjiesrivier.
The Routes
Southern Route: Start at Matjiesrivier, drive south 47 km to Kagga Kamma turnoff – turn left – up Katbakkies pass to go down Skittery Kloof until you reach Calvinia Road – Turn right to Ceres – On top of Theronsberg Pass turn right on Witklippies road – Follow until you reach R303 – Turn right to Op Die Berg – Turn right to Cederberg – Keep left when you get to end of tarred road – 47 km to Matjiesrivier +200km
Western Route: Start at Matjiesrivier, drive north over Algeria to N7 – turn left before bridge – to Citrusdal – turn left at 4 way stop in Citrusdal – over Middelberg Pass to Op Die Berg – turn left to Cederberg – Keep left when you get to end of tarred road – 47 km to Matjiesrivier +-200km
Northern Route: Start at Matjiesrivier, drive north to Wupperthal – Biedouw Valley – turn left at Englishman’s Grave -Clanwilliam. (can turn right at Elizabeth Fontein turnoff – to Bulshoek Dam – turn left to Clanwilliam) – Turn left into Main street and right at fork at the Old Prison – out of town onto gravel to Algeria ( can turn right at Rondegat turnoff – turn left at N7 bridge to Algeria) – back to Matjiesrivier 200 – 300km
Eastern Route: Start at Matjiesrivier, drive north to Wupperthal – Biedouw Valley – Turn right to Uitspankraal -cross the Doring River – turn right on Ceres road – turn right again at Skitterykloof- pass. Kagga Kamma – down Katbakkies Pass – turn right to Cederberg – 47 km to Oasis

Citrusdal, N7, Algeria into Cederberg (West): Accessible for all vehicles.
Clanwilliam, Grootkloof into Cederberg (North): Accessible for all vehicles.
Calvinia, Biedouw Valley, Wupperthal into Cederberg (True North): Accessible until Wupperthal, further 4×4’s, 4×2’s and bikes.
Calvinia, De Bos, Biedouw Valley, Wupperthal into Cederberg – (North East) (Doringriver can be flooded June to November)
Ceres or Calvinia, Ceres-Karoo (Tanqua), Kagga Kamma into Cederberg (South East ): Accessible for all vehicles
