Mountain Biking at Rockwood Forest Lodge, KarkloofThis 20km trail follows a well-marked circuit around the Karkloof Nature Reserve. It includes some plantation roads and also a steep, rocky climb. There are quite a few river crossings on this trail, and there are also some sections on singletrack which adventurous mountain bikers will find quite exciting. The trail has stunning views of two waterfalls along the way, as well as the Karkloof Valley.

Info: Intermediate trail. Visitors pay R50 per person. There are no maps available but the trail is well-marked. Mountain bikes are available for hire. Fitter riders can take a longer, guided route.

Getting there: from Durban, take the N3 to Howick. Here, take the Karkloof road, after 14km follow the signs to Karkloof Nature Reserve.
