The Mowbray Golf Course was established in 1910 and designed by a very talented club member. Situated about 10 minutes from the city centre of Cape Town, continuous improvements by leading golf course architects have made into one of the top golf courses in the country. So much so that the club has hosted the South African Open seven times, the Bell’s Cup on three occasions as well as the major amateur championships.
This flat parkland course with views of Devil’s Peak, abundant wildlife, plenty of water and trees is a real challenge although it is not particularly long. However, if you stray into the rough do not be too perturbed – the rough is forgiving and very well trimmed. Club selection is very important.
As with all Cape Town courses the wind plays a significant role but in the case of Mowbray the effect of the wind is unique because you will seldom find that it is directly in your face or at your back.
