Mtubatuba, Elephant Coast, KwaZulu-Natal

Mtubatuba is a small town on the Elephant Coast of KwaZulu-Natal about 200 km north of Durban and 55 km from the port town of Richards Bay. The area is well known as one of the main sugar cane farming areas in the province but it is also very well situated in relation to the wildlife areas such as the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve and the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. There are also a number of timber plantations in the area.

It’s a popular stopover for tourists on their way to the parks or going inland to the battlefield areas of Zululand. There are many accommodation establishments in and around the town and there has been substantial growth in the commercial development of the area with shopping centres and wholesale businesses opening to service north eastern Zululand.

The Umfolozi Sugar Mill, part of Illovo Sugar group, is the industrial flagship of Mtubatuba and a number of service orientated light industrial concerns are located within the industrial area of Mtubatuba.
